Day Notes:
Dave Liebman and I became aquainted after I called him for advice
on a particular businness sitiuation with which he was familiar.
At the end of the conversation, he said he had heard my last
CD, and said we should play sometime. I booked a gig for us
at the Famed Deerhead Inn club in the Poconos. The gig went
well, and at its end, he suggested we make a record. Mistake
number two, for Dave…I booked a session for a few months
later, and started sifting through a pile of music he gave me.
I chose things I thought might be appropriate for the writing
of lyrics …and otherwise.
We traded charts back and forth… wrote and de-arranged
. Working with a master musician…a legend really, was both
at once humbling, and inspiring for me. This CD is a true collaboration
of very different trains of thought, and I am proud to be a
co-leader with someone I respect so much. In any event, in this
one day session, one is certainly given the opportunity to hear
Dave Liebman in a unique setting. The supporting musicians here,
were of vital importance to the concept, as they were on the
gig with Liebman and I at the Deerhead, and contributed heavily
to the outcome of this day. Jim Ridl, Steve Varner, and Ari
Hoenig, have been for a number of years, parts of my rhythm
sections. These are friends I admire, respect and love playing
with. I can’t say enough about them.
